What happens when the first viable female candidate for the office of President of the United States loses to a yet another man in a country where women make up the majority of the electorate? Lyja.org, that’s what–a blog and e-community for fierce women who are grrrling for a political revolution.
Do you have a techno-revolutionary sense of style? Can you write a mean digital manifesto? Do you take fashion as seriously as you do your voter registration?
Do you have a burning desire to talk about politics with other like-minded women and men? Do you have a techno-revolutionary sense of style? Can you write a mean digital manifesto? Do you take fashion as seriously as you do your voter registration? Do you find yourself watching C-Span rather than Gossip Girl on your Droid? Does Virginia Woolf often sing in your tweets and hang out in your Google circles? Ever find yourself protesting in your Jimmy Choos? And finally, if you’re welded to your laptop, then read no further. You’ve come to the right place. Lyja.org is not only your guerrilla guide to Real Fierce Politics, it’s also the only place to go to get your NetPolitik on.
But seriously grrrls, the situation with women in politics is dire. Women need your help:
- No woman has ever been elected to the office of President of the United States nor has ever been nominated by a major American political party for the office.
- Since 1879, only 2% of members of U.S. Congress have been women.[1]
- Women of color make up only 3.7% of the total 535 members of Congress
- Only 3 women have ever served on the United States Supreme Court, and today women comprise just 26.3% of the judgeships on state courts of last resort, 19.2% of federal district court judgeships, 20.1% of federal appellate judgeships
At lyja.org we emphasize something that's self-evident to women: the personal is always political. Here you can read a blog or create one yourself. Read up-to-the-minute political news. Start an e-petition. Organize a protest in your town. You can even learn how to run for political office!
So what are you waiting for? Why not register now to become a femizen of lyja.org, the place where it’s always fashionable to be political.
